My Miracle Cleaning Solution

When I posted my article about how to save money by using what you have for the Carnival of Natural Parenting, a lot of people wanted to know about my all-purpose cleaning solution that cuts through anything.

This stuff is amazing. I make it in a spray bottle and use it for anything--even the food that's been stuck to the high chair for a year. Use it with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser in your shower, and you'll be amazed at how clean your shower is. The only things I don't use it for are cleaning windows (for that, I just use straight vinegar mixed with water) or the entire floor (it can be slippery).

I was actually inspired to make it after reading a post about Cleaning the Natural Way on I Thought I Knew Mama. (The post was actually written by Julia from A Little Bit of All of It.) The way she described the cleaner she made sold me. She said it smelled like sweet, fresh air. I immediately wanted to make the cleaner she described, but I didn't have lemon essential oil. So I searched online and found and tweaked the recipe that is now my miracle natural cleaning solution.

I keep it in a spray bottle that's marked "All Purpose Cleaner." I also wrote the recipe on the bottle so I don't have to look it up each time it runs out. And with no further ado, here's the recipe:
  • 1/2 cup Castile soap (I've been using Dr. Bronner's lemon scent
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 drops tea tree oil
  • Put all of that in a spray bottle, fill the remainder with water, and there you have it.

Sounds like a great recipe! I always use vinegar and water. I've been too lazy to add anything else :-( but when thinking about this pleasant fragrance, it may be time to step it up!

My Green & Natural Mamas Linky is finally open today if you want to link this up :-)

I also use water and vinegar, but don't always feel like it does the trick. I love Tea Tree oil. I use it for cuts, and blemishes. I never thought to add it to my cleaning supplies. Great tip!
